SCBPA was recently awarded a grant from ABC Heywire through their Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal. The grant will be used to provide mentoring to students studying agriculture at Bomaderry, Nowra and Shoalhaven High Schools.

Over 60 students will be involved in the program which will provide opportunity for students to learn more about the careers on offer within the agricultural industries.

In this project each school will be provided with a steer which they will feed and prepare for the 2017 Sydney Royal Easter Show. The steers will compete in the Schools Steer and Carcass Competition.

There are a range of activities that students can undertake in the project including:

  • Media - to record and report on the progress of each steer for publication in the press, social media or the official project report
  • Science - to measure and monitor the performance of the steer on the prescribed ration and report results for general consumption
  • Agribusiness - to analyse the financial costs incurred and income from the project and report on its financial feasibility
  • Cattle Handling - to groom, feed and prepare the animal for show at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in April 2017
Students may choose one or more groups in which to participate depending on their interest and skills.
